The 38 Essential Life Lessons I Learned in My 38 Years of Existence. A Birthday Special From Jan Briones

Every day of your life is a learning experience. With every rise and fall in our lives, we learn valuable lessons. There are some lessons that we learn through experience, while others are learned by watching others or by reading books.

Despite how much we learn in the books, practical experience is very different from theoretical experience. Furthermore, there are many life lessons that we simply cannot learn until we face certain situations in our life.

At 38 years old, I've experienced a lot. From life lessons to business insights, I'm excited to share 38 of the most impactful things I've learned in my 38 years. Some were learned the hard way, others were observed, but all have helped to shape the person I am today.

What you’ll learn from this episode:

  • Lessons on how to navigate through life. Tips and hacks I've learned in my every day life experience.
  • Lessons on handling finances. Let me share my experience so you don't have to face the same problems and challenges I did.
  • Lessons on love and relationships. It's not just about love and relationships with other people or family and friends or the opposite sex, it's about love and relationships with yourself.
  • Perspectives on business. Find meaning and understanding in a situation to gain an advantage in your business.
  • Putting faith into practice. Trust and confidence in the presence and plans of God for your life.

Topics Covered:

04:14 - It’s okay to live alone.

05:48 - It’s okay to do things on your own or do things in your way even if the majority of the people around you do things differently.

07:19 - It’s important to find your “people”, or what they call, your happy pills. Family, friends, community especially if you are feeling lost or down or if you feel like you have all the burden of the world on your shoulders.

08:53 - It’s okay if you don’t get what you dream of right away.

10:09 - Slow things down. Breathe.

11:56 - Surround yourself with people who are better than you.

13:11 - Observe how other successful people do things their way, and then add your own to the mix.

14:53 - Do not stop learning.

16:32 - Save first, spend next.

20:12 - If you are a big spender, increase your income 10-fold.

23:47 - Find what ‘content’ means to you and be happy about it.

25:03 - It’s okay to be on social apps and meet different people around the world.

26:49 - It’s okay to be experimental.

29:47 - Do multiple things that you find interesting at first, do it multiple times altogether, and then pick one and run with it.

32:20 - Aim super high and be too ambitious that even if you keep falling down, even if you keep making mistakes, you won’t fall to the ground too fast too soon.

35:11 - Find your unique voice and say what’s on your mind.

36:31 - Ask questions. Be curious

37:36 - Know your pet peeves and identify your hot buttons.

40:16 - Recognize when enough is enough.

41:22 - It is always better to love and lose than to not have loved at all.

43:02 - The moment you know that the person you love already loves someone else, let them go. Because if a person really loves you, they shouldn’t be open to looking for someone new.

45:03 - We have different timelines of when to get married, have kids and when to move on. Identify yours and give yourself permission to follow it.

46:28 - Being an entrepreneur is never easy. You have to do all of the things at first, and be okay with it.

48:47 - Give yourself permission to be lazy once in a while.

49:44 - Hire people who are better than you and really listen to what they say.

50:33 - As a leader, it’s our responsibility to identify each of our team member’s superpowers and weaknesses.

53:59 - The power of an abundance mindset is always way better than the scarcity mindset.

56:45 - It’s okay if you still haven’t figured out what you want at age 30.

58:17 - Keep track of your progress and only compare yourself to how you did yesterday instead of how other people are doing their thing now.

59:15 - There is always one person in the family whom you can really open up to, with no holds barred. Reach out to them no matter what.

1:00:50 - There is always a friend or two who will always be there for you even if you keep repeating the same stories over and over again.

1:01:50 - God has His own plans for us and all we need to do is just surrender and let him do his magic.

1:03:21 - He lets people come into our lives with a purpose. And when he sees that they’ve done their part, he can just take them away and check how we move forward from there. But He never leaves our side.

1:06:40 - God always knows the prayers of our hearts even if we don’t talk about it out loud.

1:08:07 - Somewhere out there, someone longs to be with you. Don’t stop the faith.

1:10:19 - If you find someone who truly loves you, don’t let them go no matter the challenges life throws at us.

1:12:41 - Having a lot of money is good but if you don’t have a plan on how to use it properly, losing all of it can make or break you.

1:15:55 - Despite all the bad things or bad people we encounter, don’t lose faith in humanity. There will always be someone kinder and better and who will do things right by you.

Key Takeaways:

"The more I study, things about business entrepreneurship, how to treat people, how to talk to people, how to communicate, how to do this and that the more I learn things every day, the more I am able to help other people, the more I am able to tweak my processes, the more I am able to inspire other people with what I do. So para sa akin, the moment you stop learning, pinipigilan mo and sarili mo mag grow to your fullest potential" - Jan Briones

"If spending and buying things for yourself makes you the happiest girl or guy in the world, every time you do it for yourself, then the only option me, higher income than what you're getting right now. " - Jan Briones

"It's not bad to be ambitious, it's not bad to have 'mataas na pangarap', you just have to own it. That's your dream, your ambition, bakit mo babawasan? So for me, aim super high. Super high na kahit na magkamali ka at bumagsak ka, nawalan ka ng pera or whatever hindi ka pa rin lagpak na lagpak, you can still pull yourself up" - Jan Briones

"If you will not identify what enough means to you, you will just allow other people to take advantage of you. " - Jan Briones
