Moving Past Fear And Creating The Life You Want with Maria Liselle Flipphi

Whenever the time comes that life pushes us to try doing things we’ve never tried, there’s always this fear of what if’s that makes it hard for most people to thrive.

“How can I do this when there’s literally an ocean of experienced people who're also going for the same thing?”

“How can I trust other people to do this for me when I have done this all by myself in the past year?”

Little did we know, we’re already saying no to growth. We’re already limiting what we can become by not trusting how others can be of help on whatever it is that we do.

They say that it’s also a talent when you’re able to see people’s talent and the potential inside them. Let us not wait for us to reach that point where we start to lose hope first before we face our fears of being able to do more. What you need is already within you. You just need to give it a tap and let it put you in awe as it sparks. Don’t be afraid to start. There’s always room for you to thrive.

Maria Liselle Flipphi is a LinkedIn for Business strategist and trainer, providing content strategy, profile optimization, and organic B2B marketing to clients from Asia, Australia, United States, Africa, and Europe. Working in academia and social development sharpened her ability to amplify stories and harness content through a 5-point playbook so that executives with unique professional backgrounds can unlock their compelling narrative and become Top-Of-Mind.

Liselle co-founded Opti/Write in 2020, which has since helped nearly a thousand executives and entrepreneurs position themselves for career change and thought leadership. In October 2021, Liselle became the first from the Philippines to be included in the roster of global honorees of #WeLeadComms for communication leadership. And in March 2022, she and her co-founder, Cheri Lynne Venegas, were recognized as among the 100 Most Influential Filipino Women on LinkedIn.

In this episode, Liselle shares with us her journey of almost giving up to then engaging with a business partner that has completely changed everything in the course of their business. Here, she narrates how she feared things, as well as how she’s able to excel after having a mindset shift.

“Hindi kailangang may strong why. You can choose why’s wherever you go.”

Key Takeaways:

“That time, sabi ko, dapat confident ako kahit saan ako mapadpad; hindi ako takot. Kasi marami akong fears kasi ‘yong life ko medyo steady lang. Kailangan ko i-push ‘yong sarili ko, kasi ‘pag hindi, palagi akong may takot.” – Liselle Flipphi

“Buti nalang din ‘yong asawa ko, siya kasi talaga entrepreneurial eh. Sabi niya, ‘Liz, kapag hindi ka magtiwala, walang mangyayari; hindi tayo mag-grow.’ We gave up half of the business, instead of everything sa amin. But by giving up 50%, you get more. Sa start, hati lang talaga ‘yong profit. But when we grew, talaga, ‘yon ‘yong sarap after. May hirap bago magsarap.” – Liselle Flipphi

“Malaking bagay sa akin na nagkaroon kami ng pusa, kasi workaholic ako. And I think, if nakukuha ko lang ‘yong sense of fulfillment ko sa work, then wala; it will not work as much. But when we got cats, parang mayroon kang different source ng happiness. Don’t put too much of your happiness in just one thing. ‘Pag naka-spread out siya, kung meron kang something na talagang na-deplete ka, meron ka pang others.” – Liselle Flipphi

“Writer’s mindset is always dapat bukas ka, kasi whatever it is that you’re learning, kailangan mo siyang gawin na parang synthesis of something.” – Liselle Flipphi

“Don’t be afraid. If you’re afraid, try to find someone. It may not be na siya talaga ‘yong expert doon, or mayroon siyang different kind of skill set, pero mahalaga na mayroon kang kasama. Pero ‘wag din 100% na kung ano ‘yong ginagawa niya, susundin mo. Build your confidence. Make an inventory.” – Liselle Flipphi

“Kahit saan ka mapadpad, you’ll be happy and thriving. ‘Yon ‘yong success for me. Life took me in a different path and I had to start again from zero. There were so many times na I had to start again from zero. If you’re able to find something that you’ll be happy [about] and you’re thriving, ‘yon ‘yong success for me.” – Liselle Flipphi
